4 Activities for Earth Day

4 aktivity na Den Země

Why do we actually celebrate Earth Day, and how did it begin? The goal is to draw attention to various environmental threats and raise awareness about recycling, upcycling, and sustainable living. It originated in the USA, where people demonstrated in 1970 to support the adoption of environmental protection laws. Today it is celebrated almost all over the world. Even from an early age, we want to encourage a relationship with nature and the environmental protection that comes from it. That is why we bring you 4 tips you can try with children.

Spring scavenger hunt

In the attachment, you can download a spring scavenger hunt. It will make your walk more special, and it will also teach your little monkey to notice nature. You can talk about each “item from the scavenger hunt.”

Observe germination

Maybe you sowed Easter grass at Easter, and maybe you did not. In that case, it is time to fix that. Take a bowl with your children, put a piece of cotton wool and a little water in it. Add seeds (Easter grass, cress) or a bean. Put it by the window and watch with the children every day what is happening. Take photos of it and then make a timeline (on a PC, tablet, or from printed photos).

Make something from waste

Take something you would throw in the trash and make something useful from it. A true evergreen is a toilet paper roll. Another great item for crafting is a plastic bottle. Old fabrics or balls of yarn can also come in handy. And what can you make from them? From rolls, for example, a pencil holder; from fabrics and yarn, a sensory book. (You can find an example below in the gallery).

Clean up a public space

Unfortunately, there are still people among us who litter in the park, in the forest, or at the bus stop. Let’s show children that this is not how we do things. Take not only our scavenger hunt on your walk, but also a bag, and pick up with the children the things that do not belong in nature.
