Monika and her story.

Not so long ago, our mom was a completely healthy, beautiful woman. Despite a very difficult childhood, she became an incredibly strong woman. The best mother that I, Tereza, and my brother David could have wished for. She was a strong personality, overcoming all of life's obstacles, which began already in her childhood. When she was young, her mother died, then her grandmother, and she never knew her father. Not only for us, but also for those around her, she was always someone who would give even when she had nothing herself. She was a person with an open heart, and she was able to bring joy into everyone's life.

On 30. 12. 2022 our lives were turned upside down, when the phone rang and we were told that our mom had been in a very serious car accident with a truck, which hit her from the side at full speed, and she was then flown to the ICU in Hradec Králové. They brought her in a very serious condition; she had a fractured pelvis, fractured collarbone, broken ribs, punctured lung, torn aorta, and bleeding in the brain.

She was in a vegetative coma for 3 months, after which she gradually woke up thanks to hyperbaric chambers in the hospital in Kladno. She fought every day, step by step, even though at first the doctors gave us little hope and prepared us for the worst.

But she managed it and did not give up. She ended up bedridden with extensive brain damage. Unfortunately, unemployed and without support.

She spent three months in the private GaRC rehabilitation ward in Kladno, where they are trying to get her body moving so she can be handled more easily and Monika can gradually move to a wheelchair. There she began to communicate using a board, on which she can write and arrange letters, and she still asks when she will go home. She is starting to gently control her vocal cords, and when prompted she can at least quietly say the given word, so we believe she could learn to speak again. The road to full recovery will be long and difficult, but our mom is strong and fights every day so she can return to us.

What will happen next?

But in a few weeks her stay in Kladno will end.

Given that she is unable to move even in a wheelchair, it is necessary to obtain a special vehicle, an adjustable bed, a special mattress, a wheelchair, nursing care, and professional assistance.

Before Monika heads home or to a specialized facility, we want to arrange a stay in a neurorehabilitation center, which will make it easier for her to communicate with her family and overall improve her mobility and motor skills. The center is located in Liberec. After that, we would like to arrange stem cell therapy for Monika.

After nine endless months of obstacles, sorrow, and effort we are getting closer every day to the hope that Monika will return to us. Ironically, she built her whole life on independence and self-sufficiency, but now she needs all the help she can get!

What exactly will the money from this fundraiser be used for?

The money from the fundraiser will be used primarily for Monika's treatment, rehabilitation, and the costs associated with them.

Our goals will depend on the success of the fundraiser. In total, we want to set aside around one and a half million for speech therapy, rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, and stem cell treatment, which unfortunately is not performed in the Czech Republic and is therefore not covered by insurance. From this, we will also use contributions for the most current treatment at a private neurorehabilitation center in Liberec, which is not covered by insurance; the cost of accommodation for four weeks for Monika and Tereza, including transport and meals, is approximately 100,000 CZK. If more money is raised, we would also use the funds for treatment abroad specializing in brain damage, for example in Switzerland or Mexico.

Another goal is ensuring mobility, transport to the hospital, home, and above all a return to normal life. We want to use the contributions to buy a Volkswagen Caddy adapted for wheelchair users worth 780,000, including a special conversion. Thanks to the state contribution, which ranges from 100,000 to 500,000, we want to set aside 400,000 from the money raised for the purchase of the vehicle.

And finally, with hope of returning home to her children, three cats, and dog, we want to help Monika buy medical aids such as an adjustable bed, an anti-decubitus mattress, a special wheelchair, and home modifications to make the situation easier. We estimate 700,000 for medical aids and home adaptations, and 300,000 for supporting the children, who are still studying.

If we manage to reach all these goals, any additional funds will be used to repay the mortgage and loan, which Monika and her children cannot afford in their current situation, and to care for her animals: Harvey, Daisy, Mia, Karel, and Greg.

This situation changed life not only for Monika, but above all for Terezka and David, who cannot imagine the future without their mom.

We would like to thank, on behalf of the whole family and Monika's close circle, every single kind soul who helps us give Monika her life back and, first and foremost, return their beloved mother to her children, because we all miss her very much.
