Let’s help Tomáš get to school

We greet all supporters of monkey moms and would like to inform you that in the "Helping" section we have a new contribution, where you can financially make the everyday life more pleasant for the young mother of little Tomášek, who, thanks to your and our support, will be able to build his preschool and later school study space, so that he can diligently prepare for school.

Here we would like to introduce the mother and her difficult life situation in a few words...

My name is Barbora A. and in 2015 my longed-for son Tomášek was born. Unfortunately, my partner and I knew each other very little, so the relationship did not last. We broke up during the pregnancy. The pregnancy went without problems, except that the screening in the first trimester did not turn out well, so I underwent an amniotic fluid test. It was nerve-wracking to wait a month. The results came back fine. I carried Tomášek for more than two weeks past term, and in the end the birth was delivered by cesarean section.

After the birth, it was very difficult – Tomášek cried constantly and did not sleep. Newborns sleep up to 20 hours a day; he slept barely 8 hours. I took him outside, but he cried in the stroller too. The only thing that helped was a baby carrier. Around 15 months he knew a few words, then regressed within a few weeks. He stopped speaking, only made sounds, got angry, and ate only liquid food. Around the age of 2.5, I found a speech therapist who took us under her care. I remember her words to me. "Mrs. Barbora, what you feel inside as a mother is 100% right." But I still felt that something was wrong with Tomášek. Since Tomášek's condition and speech were not improving - at age 3, also on the pediatrician's recommendation, we visited specialists (psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist), with suspicion of childhood autism, which was diagnosed at the age of 4.5 in psychiatry at the Motol University Hospital. The diagnosis was childhood autism, moderate intellectual disability, behavioral disorders, speech disorders, self-harm, attention disorders, and ADHD. The specialists helped us greatly by telling us where to turn and which services and centers to use. At present, Tomášek is on psychiatric medication, which enables us to manage self-harm and problematic behavior. Since I am a single mother, my financial options are very limited.
