Monkey Mum started out as a small e-shop. Over just a few years, however, it grew dynamically and became the exclusive European seller of bed safety rails, and later added the sale of other products for parents with children, from clothing to cosmetics. In 2022, the company achieved revenues of 23 million CZK, and in 2023 sales climbed to more than 33 million CZK.

Recently, the Monkey Mum e-shop also announced a significant investment in another e-shop that also focuses on products for children and parents. This move is part of its growth strategy, and both companies are also part of Matěj Turek’s investment fund.

“Investing in the Pro malé dobrodruhy e-shop is a strategic step that will allow us to expand our portfolio and strengthen our position in the market,” said Matěj Turek, founder of the 10x fund.

From piece-by-piece sales to expansion across Europe

Lucie did not originally plan to start an e-shop, which today already has revenues in the millions. The whole story began when her son fell out of bed in his sleep. This incident prompted her to look for a way to prevent such situations in the future.

After a long search, she discovered safety bed rails, which turned out to be the ideal product for parents who want to ensure their children’s safety, but they were not available on the European market.

Lucie realized that similar products could appeal to other parents as well, and decided to become their exclusive seller in Europe and found the Monkey Mum e-shop.

The first rails arrived in the Czech Republic in July 2020 and immediately met with great interest, leading to stock being sold out within the first month. This success motivated Lucie to continue and develop her business further. Another impulse came with the birth of her second son.

Despite the demanding period of maternity leave and caring for a newborn, Lucie did not stop developing her business. Amid days full of childcare concerns, she still found time to manage the e-shop, administration, and communication with investors.

This combination of dedication and persistence enabled Lucie to turn her idea into reality and build a company that today serves thousands of customers across Europe.

A showroom in Prague and expansion onto Amazon

In September 2023, Monkey Mum opened its first showroom in Prague’s Vršovice district.

“We rented a beautiful two-story house, where we ceremonially opened the showroom on the ground floor. Customers can see bed rails, stair rails, safety playpens and other of our bestsellers in person,” explained Lucie Janauer.

In addition, parents can choose from a selection of wooden and fabric toys and try out children’s designer clothing. On the first floor of the building there are offices, a workshop, and a small internal warehouse, which allows for efficient management and fast order dispatch.

2024 brings more ambitious plans for Monkey Mum. The company has started selling on one of the world’s largest online marketplaces, Amazon.

“Sales on Amazon took off very quickly. By the end of the year, we plan to launch sales on Amazon across Europe,” Lucie added.

This move will allow Monkey Mum to reach new markets.
