In spring, nature wakes from winter sleep, everything blooms and buds, birds sing, animals are born, the weather does what it wants, the clocks change, the days get longer, and we gradually start shedding our outer layers. It’s a time when we can spend more time outdoors and draw energy from the sunshine again. What spring activities can we enjoy with children outside and which ones inside?
Outdoor activities outside
- Make a wreath from dandelions or daisies;
- paint a traveling stone and leave it somewhere in the park;
- go feed the ducks;
- take out some chalk and draw on the pavement;
- go for a walk in nature and explore the surroundings;
- give someone a kiss under a flowering cherry tree;
- take a trip to a farm - in spring there will probably be some young animals there (bunnies, lambs, calves, etc.);
- go to the playground;
- take out a bike, scooter, or balance bike and go for a ride;
- go to the woods and leave something tasty for the animals in a feeding rack there;
- go on a picnic;
- go on a train trip;
- pick some flowers or branches for a vase;
- put on rubber boots and go splashing in puddles;
- make a checklist and search outside - for example, find a dandelion, find a ladybug, find a tit, etc.
Spring activities for home
- Easter - bake gingerbread cookies, a lamb cake, Easter bread, decorate eggs, and plait a whip;
- sow grass seed;
- cook some food that includes nettles or spinach;
- since spring often brings April weather, in case of damp or rainy weather you can try board games at home, spring-themed bingo, reading fairy tales, a matching game (Dobble), building a fort or a monkey course.
You will surely think of many other activities that are especially suitable for spring. Whether you jump in the rain and catch raindrops on the tip of your tongue or head out for a bike ride, the imagination has no limits—and with children, that goes double. Enjoy every moment when it’s possible to go outside and dare to be a little adventurous; not only will your children appreciate it, you’ll recharge your batteries too, and any troubles will be easier to handle.
