Children's Sleep & Crying

How to sleep together while traveling

Jak na společné spaní na cestách

If parents decide to sleep in the same bed with their baby, there will come a day when they are away from home overnight and need to figure out how to make co-sleeping in that place safe and comfortable for everyone. So what are the options when a children's travel crib is not an option?

Options for co-sleeping away from home

Sleeping away from home can be a challenge and a big test for parents and their children. There are several ways to do it, and ideally you will combine them.

  • Travel nest - if you have a small baby who does not yet roll over and does not move around the bed much, you can pack a nest for the trip, which you can then move around different rooms during the day and always be sure that the baby is in a safe space.
  • Pushing the bed against the wall - if possible, it is ideal to push one side of the bed against the wall so that the child sleeps between the wall and the mother/father.
  • Surrounding with pillows and duvets - if you need to put the child to sleep and then leave the room, you can surround them with pillows and duvets to create some kind of barrier so they do not roll straight out of bed.
  • Placing chairs beside the bed - just like in the previous case, you can place chairs along the bed to act as a barrier for the child, but the disadvantage of chairs is that they can be easily moved, so this is not as safe.
  • Monkey Mum bed rails - the safest choice will certainly be to pack Monkey Mum bed rails, which fit into a travel bag and are compatible with most beds.
  • Monkey Mum travel bumper - if you travel more often, it will certainly pay off to get a Monkey Mum travel bumper, which is 1 m or 1.2 m long and, thanks to its easy assembly, will become your indispensable helper
  • Camera, video baby monitor - whichever of the above options you choose, it will certainly be worthwhile to get a camera that can connect to your mobile phone or a video baby monitor, thanks to which you will always have your child under control when you are not with them.
  • Sleeping bag - children who are used to sleeping in a sleeping bag will certainly appreciate it away from home too, and you will not have to deal with what to cover the child with at night. Monkey Mum sleeping bags are suitable for children from 0 to 4 years old, so you do not have to keep buying bigger and bigger ones as the child grows out of them.

Co-sleeping with children away from home, just like co-sleeping with children at home, has its advantages and disadvantages. There are always ways to create a safe environment for a child, and it is up to you as a parent to choose what you prefer. We wish you wonderful travel experiences and even more wonderful co-sleeping with your children.
