Father's Day

Den otců

International Mother’s Day is certainly better known; however, we should definitely not forget about dads. Besides this day, we should often praise and admire them for being such wonderful husbands, partners, and fathers, because they simply need to hear it from us. So when is Father’s Day celebrated, and what should you give your dad?

When is Father’s Day celebrated

For most countries, Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday in June, however there are many countries where it is different. For example, in neighboring Germany it is 40 days after Easter, in Finland it is the second Sunday in November, and in Russia it is on February 23. In the Czech Republic it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June, and this year it falls on 19.6.2022.

Why Father’s Day is celebrated

The meaning is very simple. Since Mother’s Day is celebrated, Father’s Day is celebrated as well. This day was of interest to the American Sonora Smart Dodd, because she wanted to pay tribute to her widowed father, who raised her four siblings on his own. That was in 1910. In the following years, this day was forgotten, until Miss Sonora spoke up again, and in 1966 Father’s Day was proclaimed an official day directly by President Johnson.

What to give dads

A handmade gift or card will delight many a dad. He will surely also be thrilled by a family trip, during which he can spend time with the whole family, or breakfast in bed. If your dad prefers physical gifts, you can’t go wrong by giving him some cologne, beer from a microbrewery, quality coffee, or a sausage from a local farmer. The possibilities are endless.

So don’t forget your dad this Sunday, June 19. Whether you just give him a kiss and tell him how much you love him, or buy him something, we are sure he will be touched and overjoyed to have such wonderful children.
