It’s nice when the family gets together throughout the whole year. But often, due to greater distances, that’s not possible very often, and the Christmas holiday season certainly invites us to meet. It should be a time of peace, love, and harmony. How can you enjoy these days, and what can you do or not do?
Cleaning can wait
First of all, forget about cleaning and enjoy a few days of comfort. Children and your husband/wife will surely appreciate it if you spend these days together, mindfully. Besides, let’s be honest, with children the tidy space will be back to its original state within a few minutes anyway, and you can start all over again.
Visits to grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles
For some, it’s a polite visit, something of an obligation; for others, it’s a chance to meet again, feast together, have fun, and laugh. Whatever your situation, believe that you are not alone. If these visits leave you feeling more drained, agree on a shorter time, or skip them, or spread them out over several days so you’re not overwhelmed by all the impressions. Especially small children can then have evenings of crying, because it’s simply too much for them.
Compromises and personal boundaries
Since this is a time of peace, love, and harmony, you can try what it’s like when compromises are sought in every situation. In other words, so that both sides are satisfied. You’ll see that then you can manage everything together much better and everything will go more easily somehow. It will definitely help if you think about your own boundaries and don’t let just anything or anyone too close. Saying “no” is not a bad thing; many of us are still learning it over and over again. It is often difficult, but the result is worth it.
When dad is at work
Some fathers can’t afford to take vacation during the Christmas holidays and have to leave mom and the children at home. For mom, this can be more demanding, especially when she has gotten used to more help from dad during those few shared days and the schools and kindergartens are closed. On these days, it’s nice to ask for help from grandmothers and grandfathers. They can help with cooking, watch the children, or take them for a walk.

Let’s love each other
The winter and also post-Christmas period is great for sorting out your thoughts, we have more time for ourselves, we are outside less, we close off unresolved things inside ourselves and recharge before spring comes and with it more activities again. Let’s use the winter holidays to show each other love more openly. Maybe there isn’t much time for that during the rest of the year, but with the accelerating pace of life there will never be time for it. So let’s stop, tell our loved ones that we love them, give each other a kiss. Let’s fill our hearts with love and spread it around us.
